If you are a seeker of outdoor adventure, exploration, and the natural beauty of Kentucky, then chances are good that you have considered the idea of exploring caves in our great state. From the Facebook page:

If you want to take the next step and learn what it takes to explore the Kentucky underground, the Louisville Grotto caving club welcomes you to our special meeting.

When: September 25th (Wednesday) at 7:00pm

Where: LVL 1 Hackerspace, 814 e broadway. The alley between Shelby and Logan. Park in the ORI lot off of Shelby Street.

The LVL 1 Hackerspace is an educational workshop; it is a very interesting place I must say. A big thanks to LVL 1 for allowing us to use their meeting room. It is a safe place. There will be light snacks and refreshments.

What does the Louisville Grotto do?

Currently we are focused on exploring and preserving caves in Central Kentucky. At every opportunity we educate the public on the importance of caves and why we should protect them. Other goals include mapping caves, exploring new caves, safety training, vertical training, scientific contributions, charitable contributions, landowner relations, and general comrodery amongst cavers.

We also own a 67-acre nature preserve in Bonnieville that has five caves on it. It is a great place to visit and relax in a peaceful environment. Volunteers are needed to help retain the beautiful condition and preserve its natural and historical value. We host a fundraising event each year called Speleofest that funds the upkeep of the preserve as well as other club business and activities.
