route to foot bridge
« on: February 10, 2003, 03:06:52 PM »

What is the quickest and easiest way with the the snow and ice (I dont have 4x4) to get to the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail footbridge crossing the red river?  (Great pic in the photo gallery!).  I really want to see it and was thinking no time like the present if its not too bad in the snow.

....on a side note.  how can a damn idiot like myself paste a pic in these freakin posts?    ???

There's a canoe put-in (and parking area) within easy walking distance.  I forget what the sign at the road says, but I'm sure someone here will know...

Its really easy to get to the bridge, and you can even see it from the road.  Follow KY 715 down into the Gorge and look for the sign.  A gravel road leads you down to a parking area.  From there you can hike along the river to the bridge.  OR you can continue on 715 to where the Sheltowee crosses the road, park, and walk down hill to the bridge.

Snow shouldn't be too much of a problem unless we get 10 inches or so.  Eventually they will salt 715, but it usually melts fast enough to drive around out there.

It used to say Sheltowee Trace Trailhead parking.  Now it also includes the footbridge on the sign as well.

Yea, with the leaves down you should be able to find it fairly easy. I always wondered where the trail accross the bridge goes?

Thanks -- After all the seriousness of another "un-named" thread, I though we could all use a little humor.

Like the little boy who went to his teacher and said, "I just want to warn you my dad said if I bring home one more bad grade, somebody is going to be in trouble."
