Title: Carving A Snake On Hiking Stick
Post by: stixman on October 17, 2013, 04:05:15 PM
Currently, working on a walking stick with a snake carved on the stick.

I have the snake cut out and I am in the process of cutting the scales into the snake.

Thought I would post a picture of the progress.

I plan to paint the snake orange with yellow highlights.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Looks good. I can't think of anything I'd do to improve it.

So lifelike I think I would have trouble hiking with it...would have to be a display piece.  Really good job.

I've just painted the first layer of paint on the snake I'm carving on the walking stick.

The paint was golden rod yellow, but has taken on a green cast.

I have several more layers of paint to apply.

Let me know what you think.

Added three more colors to the carved snake and applied three coats of polyurethane.

The stick really has a smooth finish.

Colors look unique and were inspired by the painted horses along the streets of Lexington, KY.

If my photo skils were just a little bit better, I think you would be pleased with the end result.

Thought I would post a picture of the last walking stick I have carved.

The snake is very colorful and really draws the attention of people who see it.

Look out the cat has a snake up the tree.

Kinda freaky cat.

You just never know what you will find in Kentucky.
