Dawkins Line Rail Trail?
« on: August 15, 2020, 08:04:58 AM »

Hi Folks!  It's been a long time since I posted here....   We have been getting our recreation locally on bikes and foot trails mainly the Big 4 Bridge in downtown Louisville and the Indiana bike trail from the Big 4 west along the river to the I64 Sherman Minton bridge as well as the Parklands of Floyds Fork which has 2 access points just 2 miles from my home.
Also we have RV camper trailered the 4 corners of the good ole USA hitting all but 4 or 5 states.

OK the reason for this (rather long so far) post is The KY state parks Face Book page recently posted a promo for the Dawkins Line Recreational Trail.  Their website has a nice PDF color map of the trail with access points but the pretty map shows ZERO roads.  I can find the trail on google maps and even zoom in on much of it using satellite views but the KY Parks map doesn't tell how to find these trail heads nor does it give any GPS or cross road junctions to find parking areas.
Always worry about parking out in the boondocks as we would be RV camping at Jenny Wiley SP and driving my nice pickup truck to the trail.
ANY suggestions about where we might park (remember we'll be driving from Jenny Wiley camp ground) would be greatly appreciated!!  Also any been there/done that story would be great.
Thanks in advance!
Peace & Love!
Dan in Fern Creek KY

Bump- No one been to the Dawkins Line Rail Trail??

I reached out to KY state parks via Face Book and they sent me an updated brochure - map.
They need to update their website about the trail.  Their website says the trail is 18 miles long and the west end is not
complete.
The brochure they sent me says the entire 36 miles of trail is complete BUT the Tip Top tunnel is closed.
This breaks the trail into 2 parts and the far SW end is only accessible from the west end at Evanston.
They don't give any idea when/if the Tip Top tunnel might open but it's still a pretty nice trail and it's calling me!
I'll try to attach the new brochure as the KY parks website still only has the outdated map and info.

Due to file attachment size limitations I am attaching the brochure page 1
to this post.

Thanks for posting about this. Google says I can get to the Jane Beshear Trailhead in less than 2 hours.

Please report back here if you make it out there

You do the same!  I'm definitely going -somewhere- this Fall.
Might be Brown Co. SP Indiana
Mammoth Cave NP
or
Jenny Wiley SP and day trip to ride bikes on the Dawkins Line Rail Trail.
