The red was looking great yesterday. Wish I had time to go to Muir today.

Hang Em High Horse Camp, or White Oak Boat in; north a bit from there near Horse Lick Creek is the S-tree primitive camps, it's actually quite nice.
If you want large, then of course you're back to state park and lake campgrounds.

I'm looking for info regarding backcountry camping in the DBNF London District, preferably near Buck Creek.  Bee Rock and Rockcastle Campgrounds are both closed and we'd prefer to camp more primitively. Little Lick is small and best suited for horses.
Suggestions?

KYWilderness 2018 Winter Hike
« on: January 02, 2018, 01:36:32 PM »

Please join us for a KYWilderness Forum group hike in March 2018. You can focus on your New Year's Resolution to stay active while avoiding the crowds at the gym and get outside! While registration isn't required, it will help to coordinate meeting logistics and allow me to email further details. Currently, there about 10+ people planning to go and I would love to add to the group so please join us.

I just talked to my wife and she is fine with me abandoning the family, so count me in.

Who else is going?

We should have a great group for both Saturday and some camping overnight. I will email everyone next month with more details, the total number in the group and usernames, as well as some initial maps.

Can't wait!

Myself and my eldest will make it I am pretty sure. Need me to do anything somewhere, or does this suffice? Is it cool if we just do Saturday? What's the return distance like from the midway point??

edit: nvm I see you plan to make it a loop, very handy

ps should be a yang weekend, based on normal alternation so I expect either very beautiful or very interesting, but generally pretty safe! Excellent date selection!

Wish I could make it, but I may be even farther away than normal at that time. Have fun!

I'm ready!  I'll be there Friday, plan on hiking a full day and camping out somewhere near where we intend to meet up on Saturday.  Speaking of, what are the plans for meetup location and time on Saturday morning?

Awesome! The plan is for everyone to meet 9:00am EST first at the Osborne Bend/Copperas parking lot. I will be there between 8-9. I drive a bright red Kia SUV with a roof rack, so pretty easy to spot. We can discuss plans before departing there, will probably cross Swift Camp Creek near the bridge.

No no no... sorry for the confusion.  I just can't resist the urge to add an extra day, so I'm coming down early on Friday.  The meetup is Saturday at 9am. :-)
