The red was looking great yesterday. Wish I had time to go to Muir today.

Hang Em High Horse Camp, or White Oak Boat in; north a bit from there near Horse Lick Creek is the S-tree primitive camps, it's actually quite nice.
If you want large, then of course you're back to state park and lake campgrounds.

I'm looking for info regarding backcountry camping in the DBNF London District, preferably near Buck Creek.  Bee Rock and Rockcastle Campgrounds are both closed and we'd prefer to camp more primitively. Little Lick is small and best suited for horses.
Suggestions?

Looks like somewhere in the Knobs region.  Maybe Hardin County area.  Not enough for information for a winner, I know, but it will narrow our search down to 1 or 119 counties, at least!

It is a Knob; it is sort of at the border of knobs and cumberland region. Almost there.

For those that may be interested, here is a pretty cool website I stumbled across, links to the highest point in each county.  Apparently "collecting" county, state, national, etc. highbpoints is a thing, naturally called Highpointing.  Something I wasn't aware of.

Green River Knob?

That's the first place I thought of when I saw the picture.  Looks like it was taken from Hwy 837 heading north, at around noon or a little after. :)

correct! tallest point in Cumberland/Knobs region you're up!

edit: yeah, let's see I took the photo 12-16-17 at 1:26 so not bad! And yes that's the right direction and highway :)

My wife and I visited here last year for the first time.  Camped, hiked, fished.

I live fairly close to there and had actually just been looking at the topo of that area the day before.  The old topo maps show a trail up the northwest side.  Would be interesting, and tiring, to hike up there and check out the view.

When I look at photos, especially in these threads, I always try to judge the season by foliage, and the position of the sun (shadows) for direction and time of day.  It's an amusing exercise of the mind, and gets easier the more you do it.  It helps with navigation also.
