I am stumped, that's not enough scenery for me to be able to pick out where you were.

If I was gonna guess I might say it kinda looks like one of the Whittleton Ridge Vistas.

Or did you make it up to Revenuers Rock?

I think whoever guesses correctly should post their own picture next for us to try and guess.

Man, I've got no idea . . . the Red River Gorge/Cumberland Plateau can be difficult to suss out specific locations from single pictures without context.

GREAT idea about having whoever guesses correctly post their own picture. A few other thoughts . . .

- For "sensitive" locations, have it be verified by the original poster by PM rather than public post. The original poster could simply specify "Send me a PM if you think you know.", then verify and pass the torch to whoever makes the ID.

- Definitely need to put in some clues . . . nearest major drainage? Closest official trail? Clifty Wilderness? Etc.

This thread has some serious potential!

It could be anywhere, but it is in the Red.

It's an overlook described in Hinterlands.

I was there on a day hike, Labor Day weekend. Tho I saw a lot a cars pulled off as we drove to the trailhead, the trail itself was empty.

As it's in Hinterlands, I don't think it's particularly sensitive. But it's not well-traveled. Just enough, I'd say, to keep it accessible.

So send me a PM, or post away.

Thanks for the clues, I'm still pretty stumped though . . . but am going to make a guess -- is this from one of the overlooks in the Tarr Ridge area described in Hinterlands? Like Tarr Ridge East, Tarr Ridge Extravaganza, etc.

And yeah, I'd agree with you about if it's in Hinterlands it's not "sensitive" in regards to naming it on this forum.

Looking forward to seeing this thread grow!

That's a tough one.  From the green tinted rocks, it must be a wet weather waterfall, perhaps at Eagle Point Bluff(??)
Great idea -- and looking forward to seeing more guesses and maybe extra clues every few days until someone gets it.

Mark W wins with the shotgun approach! That is looking along Tarr Ridge from the overlook at the end of the Tarr Ridge East trail.

Given that it was Labor Day Weekend, I was surprised that no one was camping up there. Maybe the 90+ daytime highs had something to do with that.

It is a really nice view down into Dunkan Branch valley. The leaves on the trees are so thick you can't see Rt 77 at all, but you could still hear the motorcycles. And colors on the nearby cliffs were incredible.

Take it away, Mark!

Thought I'd "chill" things out a bit since it's been so warm outside these past few weeks and use a picture from this past winter. Hope this one isn't too easy!

I'm looking for the name of the creek in this picture. The boulder is a big clue (no pun intended  :P ) It is in the Red River Gorge Geological Area and is crossed by an official trail.

I don't know how difficult this one will be.

What creek empties into the one pictured nearby?

This is at the junction of Wildcat Trail and Swift Camp Creek. Here is my photo of the same view from March 2003.

Exactly. Down below that big campsite.  We may have to get creative to stump this group!
