That's my surmise as well. I've seen also, about 4 or 5 all black wooly worms. That... is weird.

Road Closures in Red River Gorge due to ice
Date(s): Feb 6, 2014 - Feb 13, 2014

Effective Thursday, Feb. 26, 2014, the following national forest roads are CLOSED:
Indian Creek Road (FDR 9)
Chimney Top Road (FDR 10)
Rock Bridge Road (FDR 24)
Tunnel Ridge Road (FDR 39)
Sky Bridge Road (FDR 245)

Koomer Ridge campground is also closed.

The closures are due to hazardous conditions in the Red River Gorge created by ice, snow and falling trees. The roads and campground will reopen when conditions improve.

By 4:00 p.m. today (2/21/14), Tunnel Ridge Road, Sky Bridge Road, and Koomer Ridge Campground (some sites closed) will RE-OPEN. However, Indian Creek Road (9, 9A, and 9B), Chimney Top Road, and Rock Bridge Road will remain CLOSED. These roads remain closed due to very wet and soft conditions. Keeping these roads closed will preserve the road bed and prevent them from becoming rutted and damaged. The hope is that warmer and dryer weather will allow the roads to be re-opened as soon as weather permits. Also, last night’s wind event has scattered debris into these roads. Sky Bridge Road and Koomer Ridge Campground are paved and do not run the risk of damage. Tunnel Ridge Road has a harder road base which makes it more resistant to damage. Visitors should be aware that any gravel roads and gravel parking lots will be soft with the potential for some vehicles slipping. Finally, trails have not been assessed yet and very likely have multiple trees down. Most damage occurred on ridge tops due to heavy ice accumulation.

As of Thursday March 13th, all roads in the Red River Gorge have re-opened. Motorists may experience soft, wet, and rutted conditions on Chimney Top and Indian Creek roads. Please use caution while traveling these forest roads.
