Forest Service implements seasonal voluntary trail closure

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The longest trail in Kentucky will get some extra attention during March as hiking season approaches.

The Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail is a 269-mile trail that runs from the Tennessee line north through the Daniel Boone National Forest to Rowan County.

PA Game Commission Tracks White-Nose Syndrome

Three years later, hibernating bats continue to fall to this disorder

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- White Nose Syndrome (WNS) has caused cave bat population reductions in New York and New England over the past three winters. It surfaced near Albany in 2006. Pennsylvania Game Commission officials say that they are expecting cave bat mortalities this winter if the disorder spreads through hibernacula as it did New York and New England over the previous winters. To track the effects of WNS, the Game Commission is asking the public to report winter-flying bats or dead and dying bats on the landscape.

Zipline Adventures Plan Canopy Tour in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Tourism Development Finance Authority has approved a loan to Kentucky Zipline Adventures to construct a zipline canopy tour in Clay City.

Kentucky Zipline Adventures is planning to offer six lines ranging from a few hundred to over 1,500 feet in length. Participants wear a harness that is attached to the zipline and travel at tree-line level.

Land Acquisition Extends Cumberland Trail

Chattanooga, TN (PRWEB) January 11, 2010 -- The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is helping the state of Tennessee extend the Cumberland Trail corridor another 19 miles, while protecting priority land for the public with the purchase of a key tract in the trail's development, TPL announced Sunday.
