Title: springs' hotel ruins
Post by: ShifuCareaga on August 07, 2017, 01:33:51 PM
I met a man over the weekend at the newly opened Boone Creek Outdoors. We were discussing with Brandy - the guide - the sulphur water well ruins on site there. Anyhow he mentioned a place in the Big South Fork... ruins of a hotel (similar setup to Dawson or Drennon springs). Anyone know what he is talking about?? He said the vibe was pretty weird.

btw the tour was AWESOME.  You gotta go.

I got a special owner-given tour. I cannot wait for the guided hike to open up.

The mill ruins and the creek were super sweet.  So glad they got it all opened up!

Shifu, would this be in the KY or TN portions of the BSF?  I have backpacked almost the entire BSF in both states and I don't remember reading of any history of a resort similar to Dawson Springs or Drennon Springs but I may have missed it. There are numerous abandoned homes and small communities in those areas but I don't recall hearing of a sulfur springs resort.

Maybe they were thinking of the old Warner Hotel along the Rockcastle River?

There is also some old hotel ruins just off the Sheltowee near Mouth of the Laurel in Whitley County.  It is mostly covered in kudzu.

that's a start

I would imagine in the KY section, Gene, because he was all about the KY map.

laurel that's also a good start. Thanks guys. I'll get back with more research!

I've finished compiling the undone list, and divided into sections....
let's just say it's a good thing I enjoy this.  ???

Very cool!  The Sublimity Springs hotel I believe is different from the Warner and the one down by Mouth of the Laurel.  Sublimity is the one that was located at Bee Rock.
